The engine of a passenger plane flying
from Greece to Germany caught fire shortly after takeoff.
The Boeing 757 passenger plane belonging to Condor
Airlines, which took off from Corfu Island in Greece bound for Düsseldorf,
Germany, caught fire shortly after takeoff. The 273 passengers and 8 crew
members on board experienced moments of fear as the aircraft made an emergency
landing at Brindisi Airport in Italy.
One of the passengers told the German press,
"Suddenly, the electricity went out for a few seconds, and we realized we
couldn't ascend anymore. It was an incredibly terrifying experience. I sent
farewell messages because I thought, ‘This is the end.’"
No one was injured in the incident, and a spokesperson
for Condor Airlines stated that the fire was caused by a chemical reaction. An
investigation into the aircraft has been launched.
