A fire that broke out in a caravan at a
campsite in Spain quickly spread, leading to the evacuation of beaches, hotels,
and campsites near the resort town of Tarifa.
A fire broke out in a caravan at a campsite near
Valdevaqueros Beach, which is popular among surfers in Spain. Due to the rapid
spread of the flames, authorities evacuated beaches, hotels, and campsites near
the Tarifa tourist resort in southern Spain. Emergency crews worked to evacuate
sunbathers and tourists from beaches around the fire zone, while thick clouds
of smoke rose along the coastline. Tarifa Mayor Antonio Santos described the
situation as unprecedented, saying, “This is the fastest-spreading fire I've
ever seen.” He noted that the fire began along the N-340 highway, where hotels
are concentrated, and initial findings indicate it originated from a caravan.
Due to the dense smoke, at least a 9-kilometer section
of the N-340 highway was closed to traffic, while the fire is reported to be
spreading through the region's pine forests, agricultural fields, and farmland.
