In the first quarter of 2025, guests spent
129.6 million nights in short-term rental accommodation in the EU, booked via
Airbnb, Booking or Expedia.
2025 appears promising, as the total number of guest
nights increased by 4.8% compared with 2024 and by as much as 34.5% compared
with 2023.
Nights spent in short-stay accommodation increased by
16.3% in January 2025 and 11.6% in February compared with the same months of
2024. On the other hand, data show an 8.6% decrease in March this year compared
with March 2024, mostly due to the Easter holidays, which took place in April
this year and March last year. Strong results in the first 2 months helped
offset the seasonal decline observed in March.
The most popular regions for short-term rental
accommodation booked via online platforms in the last quarter of 2024 were
Andalucía (8.7 million nights) and Canarias (7.6 million) in Spain and
Île-de-France in France (7.2 million).
In the same quarter, among the top 20 regions, 5 were
located in Spain and another 5 in Italy, 4 were in France, 2 in Portugal, and 1
region each in Hungary, Poland, Greece and Austria.
