According to a report in Handelsblatt, TUI, one of the world's leading tour operators, has big plans for its "own" hotel industry.
TUI, which already owns two private islands through a joint venture with Royal Caribbean in TUI Cruises, is considering the idea of owning an entirely exclusive island. Although no concrete steps have been taken yet, efforts are ongoing to develop pilot projects.
Currently, the group operates 424 hotels under brands such as TUI Blue, Riu, TUI Suneo, Robinson, and the new luxury brand The Mora. This number is expected to reach 600 in the medium term.
