26.9 million overnight stays in total: number of guests from Germany down significantly.

In February 2025, accommodation establishments in Germany recorded 26.9 million overnight stays by domestic and foreign guests. According to preliminary results from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was 4.5% less than in February 2024.

The number of overnight stays by domestic guests fell by 5.3% year-on-year to 21.9 million in February 2025. In contrast, the number of overnight stays by guests from abroad fell only slightly by 0.9% to 5.0 million compared to the same month last year.

January to February 2025: Fewer overnight stays than in comparable previous periods

In the period from January to February 2025, accommodation providers recorded a total of 52.1 million overnight stays. The number of overnight stays was therefore 2.1% lower than in the same period of the previous year and, at -8.2%, significantly below the previous record figure for this period in 2020. The number of overnight stays by domestic guests fell by 2.2% to 42.8 million compared to January to February 2024. The number of overnight stays by guests from abroad fell by 1.5% to 9.3 million.
