Tourist numbers boom, accommodation tax introduced

Japan, which has seen a remarkable
increase in tourism following the easing of the Covid-19 pandemic, is starting
to impose an accommodation tax on tourists coming to the country.
On March 21, Interior and Communications Minister
Seiichiro Murakami signed the tax covering nine cities. Japan aims to control
the increasing number of tourists with the new accommodation tax.
