Hotels in Switzerland break accommodation record for the last 50 years

US tourists visited Switzerland,
contributing to an increase in stays.
In 2024, the number of hotel stays in Switzerland was
42.8 million, the highest in 50 years. Tourists from the US in particular
contributed to this number.
As the impact of wealthy tourists on the Swiss economy
becomes clearer, the country is doubling down on its status as a “luxury
destination”.
Foreign stays rose 5.1 percent to 22 million last year,
with US tourists accounting for nearly a quarter of that figure. Chinese and
Indian visitors, meanwhile, each increased by double digits, signaling growth
in long-haul luxury travel.
Five-star hotels account for only 8 percent of all
overnight stays, but guests staying in these hotels account for 25 to 30
percent of Switzerland's total tourism revenue.
“The numbers speak for themselves,” Markus Berger of
Switzerland Tourism told the BBC. “In a way it justifies the dependence on
luxury guests.”
