The 236 passengers on board a Russian
passenger plane that made an emergency landing in Poland due to a snowstorm
were kept on board for more than 13 hours.
A Russian passenger plane traveling from Sharm
El-Sheikh in Egypt to Kaliningrad in Russia made an emergency landing in
Poznan, Poland yesterday due to a snowstorm. After three attempts to land in
Kaliningrad, the pilot requested permission for an emergency landing at Chopin
Airport in Warsaw, the capital of Poland.
While the pilot's request to land in Warsaw was rejected,
the plane landed at Poznan Lawica Airport around 22.00 local time.
Poznan Lawica Airport authorities did not allow anyone
to get off the plane. The passengers, including elderly people, children and
pregnant women, were not provided with water and food, and the request to
refuel the plane was also denied. The 236 passengers on board were kept waiting
on the plane for more than 13 hours. The plane was allowed to take off in the
morning. Passengers returning to Kaliningrad reacted to the Polish authorities
on social media.
While Poland, a member of the European Union (EU),
requires a visa to enter the country, Russian citizens with visas have not been
allowed to enter Poland for tourist and commercial purposes since September
2022 due to the Ukraine-Russia war.
