On a cruise ship in the US, about 100
people fell ill with stomach and intestinal disorders among passengers. The US
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched an investigation into
the incident.
According to CDC data, nearly 100 people fell ill due
to an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness on board the Royal Caribbean ship.
Passengers sought medical attention with complaints of nausea, vomiting,
diarrhea and abdominal pain. The CDC is investigating whether the outbreak was
caused by a contagious virus such as norovirus. According to CruiseMapper, the
ship departed from Tampa, Florida, on February 1 on a seven-day cruise with
stops in Mexico, Honduras and Belize.
Royal Caribbean officials said they have increased
cleaning and disinfection measures on board to prevent the spread of the
outbreak. Passengers were warned to pay attention to hand hygiene.
