banned smoking in public spaces.
Osaka, one of Japan's largest cities, has banned
smoking in public spaces across the city as it prepares to host the 2025 World
Expo. Effective January 27, the ban prohibits smoking and vaping on roads,
parks, squares and other public spaces. Those who do not comply with the rules
will be fined 1000 yen. “By expanding smoke-free areas across the city, we aim
to improve safety, cleanliness and strengthen Osaka's image as an international
tourism destination,” Osaka Municipality said in a statement.
