The world-famous Trevi Fountain started to
welcome its visitors again after three months of restoration work.
The Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi), known as the
'Fountain of Love', one of the landmarks of Rome, the capital of Italy, has
reopened after extensive maintenance work.
Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said in a statement,
“This was a necessary and important intervention. Now we can see the colors of
the marble better.” Gualtieri also stated that one cannot sit on the sides of
the fountain from now on.
In a written statement made by the Municipality of
Rome, it was reported that the works, which lasted about 3 months, cost 327
thousand euros, and that the works were financed from the recovery fund that
Italy received from the European Union (EU) after the Covid-19 outbreak. The statement
also noted that in order to prevent overcrowding in front of the historical
structure, entrances to the fountain will be limited, 400 visitors will be
allowed to enter at the same time and no entrance fee will be charged from
visitors at this stage.
The limited number of visitors will be in effect
between 09.00 and 21.00 every day and there will be no restrictions after
21.00.
