Ten years after the moratorium was
approved, the company argues that the measure has been ineffective.
From Lavanguardia, Sara Rodríguez, Public Policy
Manager for Spain and Portugal at Airbnb, signs the letter in which she argues
that “the only winner in Barcelona's battle against short-term rentals is the
hotel industry, which is rapidly expanding and increasing prices.”
“In short, and just like in New York City, it is clear
that the restrictions have not worked,” insists Rodríguez, who writes that “on
the other hand, despite the increasing complaints about the impact of mass
tourism in Barcelona, it is surprising that its government continues to
authorize and promote the opening of new hotels while announcing the total
elimination of tourist apartment licenses.”
