The 2019 reopening date of France's famous
Notre-Dame Cathedral, which was severely damaged by fire in 2019, has been
announced.
Notre Dame Cathedral, the symbol of Paris, will reopen
to visitors on December 7 with the completion of the extensive restoration work
initiated after the devastating fire in 2019. French ministers are preparing to
take a step towards charging tourists to enter the cathedral.
Culture Minister Rachida Dati said that entrance fees
are applied in many important religious sites in Europe, and that a symbolic
fee should be set for Notre Dame. Stating that by charging 5 euros per visitor,
Notre Dame could generate 75 million euros a year, Minister Dati stated that
this would provide resources for both the protection of the cathedral and the
restoration of other historical heritage.
