Dertour: Growth thanks to FTI bankruptcy

Dertour Group presented its summer balance
sheet for the current year. The number of guests of the Dertour, ITS, Meiers
Weltreisen and Travelix brands increased by a massive 18 percent in the period
from June 1 to September 30, 2024 compared to the previous year.
According to company information, travel agencies
account for the majority of bookings: 66 percent of all vacations were booked
through travel agencies during the period, which is six percent more than the
previous year. “Travel agents are and will remain our most important sales
partners. Vacationers appreciate the added value of comprehensive advice from
experts,” says product manager Sven Schikarsky.
FTI Customers Rely On Other Organizers
According to Schikarsky, the increase was particularly
noticeable in the UAE, but also in Egypt and Turkey. For example, one in five
guests decided to vacation in Turkey during the period mentioned, and among
families, around one in three traveled to Turkey.
The reason for this is clear: the cake has been
redistributed, especially after the bankruptcy of competitor FTI, which was
present in these countries. “Guests were distributed among the remaining tour
operators. “This increased our number of guests,” says Schikarsky.
But he does not want to accept FTI's bankruptcy as the
sole reason for the strong summer balance sheet; after all, even before the
competitor went bankrupt, they had already seen a double-digit year-on-year
increase. Favorable currency effects in many holiday destinations may also have
played a role. “This clearly shows that the desire for summer vacations is even
greater than in the previous year.” Also remarkable: The number of guests has
“roughly” returned to the pre-Corona level.
Türkiye: Most Popular Summer Destination
Dertour Group's most popular vacation destination from
June to September was Turkey, surpassing Spain. The number of people choosing
Turkey as their travel destination this summer increased by 48 percent compared
to last year, with Spain also up 11 percent. Third and fifth places went to
Greece, Germany and Egypt, with Italy in sixth place.
