Greece to levy additional taxes on tourists to fight overtourism

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that Greece will take new measures
to address the negative effects of excessive tourism.
According to Reuters, Greece is preparing to take new
measures to combat the problems caused by excessive tourism. These measures
include surcharges on cruise passengers and an increase in accommodation taxes.
All passengers arriving at Greek ports will pay a
surcharge. This will be higher on the popular tourist islands of Santorini and
Mykonos. The accommodation tax will be increased for the period between April and
October.
Mitsotakis said he would ban short-term rentals in the
three main districts of Athens for at least a year.
