eSky,
one of Central and Eastern Europe’s leading travel platforms, has signed an
agreement with Fosun Tourism Group to acquire all of Thomas Cook’s operations,
except for its activities in China.
According to a report from www.travelgossip.co.uk,
eSky did not disclose how much it paid for Thomas Cook, but the financial
newspaper Nikkei Asia reported that the business would be sold for $40 million.
The deal will grant Thomas Cook access to eSky’s flight inventory and support
its ongoing growth. At the same time, eSky will be able to strengthen its
position in Western Europe.
Łukasz Habaj, co-founder and CEO of eSky Group, said:
“The synergy of Thomas Cook’s brand heritage with our technology will drive
Thomas Cook’s growth and allow us to strengthen eSky’s position in Western
Europe. This acquisition is part of our diversification strategy, which
involves expanding beyond just selling flights to offering package holidays in
our existing markets in Europe and Latin America, and further expanding into
Western Europe.”
