Four million airline seats at risk

The
German aviation industry fears large-scale flight cancellations during the winter
season due to high costs.
According to a report in Touristik Aktuelle, Joachim
Lang, the managing director of the BDL industry association, told the daily
newspaper Welt: "Excessive location costs will cost us four million seats
in the upcoming winter flight schedule." This is due, among other things,
to the aviation tax that was increased in May.
In addition to the tax increase, the recent doubling
of security checks and air traffic control fees in Germany are also driving up
costs. Lang explains, "This means that airlines are starting to calculate
whether it still makes business sense to fly to Germany," as these taxes
are much lower in other countries.
