Residents
of Banwol Island in South Korea, who were engaged in farming, painted their
roads, buildings, bridges, and even cars purple, transforming it into a tourist
attraction. The island’s fate was altered by tourism, and it now welcomes
thousands of visitors thanks to this color.
The "Purple Island" project, initiated by
the locals of Banwol Island, quickly became a new vacation destination for
South Koreans after the country closed its borders due to the pandemic in 2020.
From August 2020 to July 2021, more than 200,000
tourists visited the "Purple Island," which now attracts interest not
only from Korea but from all over the world.
The use of purple color is based on the local belief
that the purple bellflowers native to the area bring good energy.
The entrance fee is 3,000 South Korean Won, but you
can enter for free if you wear purple clothing that matches the island’s theme!
